DERRICK FIELDING
As a self-taught artist, Derrick revels in the freedom of creating without influence or guidance, often painting memories of emotions he has felt at places he has visited. Derrick's work explores mankind's relationship with nature and the powerful and profound impact that we can have on each other. There is often exaggeration at play within the compositions, not just for dramatic effect within the landscape but to enhance the emotional impact of the narrative. Elements of American animation artist Eyvind Earle and romantic painter Denis Nolet are often noted within Derrick's work.
More recent works have touched on the subject of love and how as human beings, we can be influenced and ultimately inspired by the natural world that we see around us. This isn't just in a romantic sense but also as a way of re-connecting with our primal selves. Derrick aims to stir and awaken the viewer's sense of wonder at the overwhelming beauty that surrounds us.
