Tamara de Lempicka, the master painter of Art Deco elegance, was born on 16 May 1898, and Art Model Collective are holding a life drawing session to celebrate her 120th birthday!
Carla and Manko will bring her vision to Underdog Gallery, clad in shimmering fabrics and adorned with flowers.
"My goal was never to copy, but to create a new style, bright, luminous colours and to scent out elegance in my models."
The gleaming surfaces of her sensual portraits are tributes to jazz- and flapper-age decadence following the privations of WWI. Despite its decorative quality, her work provided her with an outlet for unconventional self-expression: truly a product of her era, the libertine golden age between the two world wars, Lempicka, a bisexual, made bold, liberated female sexuality the lynchpin of her art.
Bar, evocative soundtrack, two models, like-minded group of creatives, at a perfect location just a few minute walk from London Bridge station.
Admission: £15 on the door
We'll have some free art materials for spontaneously visiting artists, but as always, please bring your favourite tools.
Chairs and drawing boards provided, some easels and table spaces available.
