23rd - 25th June: 'Under Tracks' Photography Exhibition Pop-Up

Join us for an exhibition celebrating London's railway arches with over 90 monochrome photographs captured by Ted Kinsey on film and traditionally printed in a darkroom. Ted has been photographing London’s railway arches since 2014 – not for their architecture, but for their occupants: the businesses and individuals who spend their working day, Under Tracks. This unique project was planned as a photographic record of the arches as they are today; a social document that captures one of London’s most unnoticed attributes. Of course, there wouldn't be a better place to stage the show than in a railway arch itself at our Underdog Gallery.

Private View: Thursday 22nd June 6pm - 9pm Celebrate the opening of the exhibition with a private view with Ted Kinsey himself. There will be great music all evening and bar open until 11.30pm. (Please register on Eventbrite to be on the guest list for the private view) Exhibition Open to the Public: Friday 23rd 11am - 7pm Saturday 24th 11am - 5pm Sunday 25th June 11am - 5pm

Ted Kinsey specialises in 'Real Photography', which akin to the return to vinyl in the music industry. He shoots only on monochrome film, then in the traditional manner, hand-prints in his darkroom the selected images on silver coated paper. The exhibition will show an amazing diversity of arches uses from an aerial trapeze gym to a tuition swimming pool, churches, micro-breweries and distilleries, a dog crèche, a Sainbury’s Local, an aquatic showroom, cafés, studios, live music venues, artisan workshops and more! After the exhibition, digital files of all the Under Tracks images have been accepted, in perpetuity, for inclusion in The History of London Archive at the Bishopsgate Institute Library in the City of London.

This exhibition shows a fantastic current view of railway arches as how they are changing in line with times we live in. The evictions in the arches at Brixton have received national press coverage as another regeneration scheme begins. The new shops in Hackney Fashion Walk are now open – sadly too late for Ted to photograph the ‘old’ arch users – while the new arches beneath the rebuilt London Bridge Station are awaiting their occupants. Other areas such as Peckham Rye, Loughborough Junction, To enham and Bethnal Green all have ‘modernisation schemes’ hanging over the future of their arches.
